Dear Sweet P,
It is said that the way you enter the world is an indication of how you’ll leave it’s mark on it. I believe that’s true.
My entire pregnancy, you sat very low in Mommy’s belly. So low that my doctor was convinced that once I went into labor, it would be a quick one. I went from 3 centimeters dilated, to 10 centimeters — in ten minutes. When it came time for me to push, I was prepared for it to be swift and easy but many pushes later, you still weren’t out. Dr. Dinh said that you had literally wiggled your body back up and were no longer sitting low. I remember she was so shocked and said, “It seem she doesn’t want to come out today so you’re going to have to push her all the way back down.” And for 1 hour and 53 minutes, that’s what I did. With every push, we also learned that your umbilical cord was wrapped around your neck. Your heart rate would drop, and mine would too — the fear was overwhelming. I have never been so afraid in all my life. I fully expected to welcome a little blue baby, so I mentally wrapped my mind around the fact that you would need some extra care in those first few minutes. Just as the nurses rushed in and they started preparing to vacuum you out — boom — you came out all pink and wonderful! It was like a joke you played on the entire delivery room so that they’d make a big fuss and then you waited for your “GOTCHA!” moment. If this isn’t who you are today, I don’t know what is — you are the silliest little person I know! lol
There are so many things I can say about who you are, but the most important will inevitably be those things you tell yourself as you grow older. You are very sweet, thoughtful, soft spoken, and love to cuddle. You are also very confident in what you want, extremely self aware, and you do things at your own pace — on your own terms. Please don’t ever lose that. When people tell you who you can’t be, show them who you are!! Don’t be afraid to speak up, to speak your truth, or to speak loudly. BE A FORCE! There is so much power in that little body of yours. Stand tall and never shrink for those who don’t see eye to eye with God’s purpose for your life.
You make me proud, every single day and I couldn’t have prayed for a better daughter. My wish for you today, on your 6th birthday, is that you would know just how magical you are. You are so much more than just a pretty face and big hair. Never doubt yourself or question your capabilities. You are indeed little, but babygirl — you are FIERCE — and I couldn’t love you more if I tried.
Happiest Birthday, Poodle Noodle! – XO, Mommy
